CostCalc
4.4
What's
New?
1. The
Progressive Yield Facility
To the best of our knowledge, CostCalc 4.4 is the only commercially available
costing system that includes a PYF (Progressive Yield Facility); the automatic
feedback of material and sequential process yields into the Bill of Materials
for realistic order quantity and for accurate materials and process cost data. This can save a lot of time and cost in both the Purchasing
and Production Departments.
2. Tracking cost reduction
through the Modification Record Sheet
The latest version has been specially designed to make changes simple, but
above all, to enable the cost effects of change to be rapidly seen. For every
parameter in the Results sheets and each recorded change, data appears in three
adjacent columns to show:
- the new cost arising from the
change
- the previous cost (just before
the change)
- the difference between them.
The ‘Difference’ column is used to automatically make a permanent record in the
Modification Record sheet of the total cost effect of each change, with
progressive data also available. This facility enables management;
- to monitor cost reduction
progress over time
- in the same context there is
automatic listing of the three
worst processes. See Item 6 below.
3. Option to use the 'As it
Happens' costing method
To match these advantages, the novel “As it happens”, method of costing is now
available as an option in the Product Costing section and as the main method
for costing the Sub-assembly parts in this system. For Product assembly it
treats the BoM and manufacturing costs together, stage by stage, in a single
document. It has been developed as a methodology because it reflects reality on
the shop floor more accurately than widely used conventional methods. The
method also enables precise instant availability of standard inventory value at
any stage in the production sequence and delivers the cost of each individual
process.
4. Minimising inventory using the
PYF Facility
A further benefit lies in the ability to apply stage yield data to show the
more accurate cost and quantity order requirements for materials that have
entered the manufacturing sequence at different process stages. The BoM is
structured to enable this option.
CostCalc 4.4 is a powerful tool in aiding purchasing efficiency and minimising
inventory size – particularly where JIT is operating and the timescale from
start to finish of the production sequence is longer than 24 hours. There is
also an option to use the older standard approach in which Bill of Materials,
workforce and machine operating costs are compiled separately and progressive
yield effects are not integrated.
5. Dual Currency feature
CostCalc 4.4 enables the value of all costed items (labour, materials, machine
costs, individual processes and totals) to be toggled instantly between two
different currencies of the user's choice.
6.
Top Three Facility
At any time, at the click of a button the system is instantly scanned to
show you data on the three worst processes – the three having the highest cost
of yield losses, the three most expensive processes and the three having the
highest potential for capacity bottleneck. Your key cost-reduction targets are
revealed and quantified.
